HAMILTON >> On Saturday the only description of little Eli Waller came from township officials, describing him as a blond little boy who wanted to make daddy proud.

The four-year-old died on Sept. 25 of what is now being attributed to Enterovirus D68. A press conference on Saturday confirmed that the respiratory illness with its fast onset took the life of the child while he slept.

On Sunday afternoon the family of the Yardville Elementary preschooler who died issued a statement regarding the death of their son. The statement was issued by the township on behalf of Andy Waller, the father of Eli. In it Waller describes his son as being like many other kids his age — nervous and excited about starting school. He expressed gratitude to everyone who has reached out in support over the last two weeks.
