Another Deadly Ebola-Like Disease Surfaces, Kills a Hospital Worker in Uganda

The Marburg virus, a hemorrhagic fever virus first identified in 1967 during outbreaks in Marburg and Frankfurt, Germany has been identified as the cause of the death of a 30-year-old Ugandan man who worked as a radiographer in a Kampala hospital.

The virus is quite similar to and of the same family of viruses as Ebola and has a very high mortality rate, into the 90% range and above in some outbreaks.

The Ugandan Health Ministry reported that the man died while on the job at a Kampala hospital. He had been feeling ill for about ten days leading up to his death, with complaints of headaches, abdominal pain, and diarrhea as well as vomiting up blood.
