Starting next week, a series of six anti-jihad ads are set to appear on about 100 buses and two subway entrances in New York City, The Blaze reported Saturday. One ad shows beheaded American journalist James Foley next to the man who killed him and reads, “It’s not Islamophobia, it’s Islamorealism.”
Another ad says that “Christians are becoming extinct everywhere in the Middle East except Israel” and demands an end to U.S. aid going to Muslim countries. One ad that was previously used shows Adolf Hitler with the Mufti of Jerusalem and says that hatred of Jews is in the Quran. “End all aid to Islamic countries,” the ad says, adding that two-thirds of all U.S. aid goes to Islamic nations.
The ads are paid for by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an organization run by blogger Pamela Gellar. Gellar, The Blaze said, told the AP the ads highlight points about Islam the government and the media ignore.
According to the Associated Press, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority rejected one ad that read, “Killing Jews is Worship that draws us close to Allah” because it could incite violence. The MTA is required by court order to run viewpoint ads, and must include a disclaimer saying it does not endorse the view of the ads, the AP said.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, however, doesn’t approve of the ads, Haaretz reported. On Friday, he called the campaign “outrageous, inflammatory and wrong.”
